Nut and vegetable oils!

January 24, 2016

The Journal of the American Medical Association had a report that heart healthy diets are also beneficial for prostate health ~ a double-whammy with one diet regimen!

Here’s the catch… the one food item they were specifically looking at were… oils! More specifically, nut and vegetable oils.

These oils have long been known to have positive health effects for everyone, and more specifically individuals who have to maintain a heart-healthy diet. Now they have noticed that this particular diet is also beneficial in maintaining a healthy prostate.

So the recommendations are to replace carbohydrate calories with unsaturated oils from vegetables and nuts. Unless your cardiologist restricts your oil consumption, then that’s a whole ‘nother story.

If you are not restricted, some helpful suggestions are: skip the regular dressings in salads and go for the oil-based ones more often, skip the croutons and replace them with nuts, for a snack go for a handful of nuts or olives, as well as including more olive and nut oils in your cooking.

If you look through our posts, you will find some information about nuts and their benefits. Not all are created equal, and if you have kidney problems, you should not eat all of them. Always do your homework first!

Happy snackin!!!
